LCC Asks VT Gubernatorial Candidates about the Lake

Dear LCC Members, Activists and Friends, The election on November 2, 2010 is rapidly approaching.  Do you know where Vermont’s gubernatorial candidates stand on issues important to the protection of Lake Champlain? LCC asked Republican candidate Brian Dubie and Democratic candidate Peter Shumlin about how they would address issues critical to the lake. We posed eight questions to each candidate covering topics like:

  • overall support for Lake Champlain protection efforts
  • stormwater control measures,
  • tax-incentives for improved stormwater management,
  • expansion of docks into public waters of  the state,
  • agricultural best management practices,
  • funding for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure,
  • control of household fertilizer, and
  • their own personal pledge to protect water quality.

The questions and the candidates’ complete responses can be found on the web at lakechamplaincommittee.org.  The Lake Champlain Committee (LCC), the sponsor of the survey, is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Lake Champlain’s environmental integrity and recreational resources for this and future generations through science-based advocacy, education and collaborative action. LCC was founded in 1963 by citizens of New York and Vermont and works as a bi-state organization. Sincerely, -Lori  Lori Fisher, LCC Executive Director
