In Memoriam: George T. Everett
Long-time LCC member George T. Everett passed away in December of 1998. In celebration of his love for the Lake, his family requested that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Lake Champlain Committee to develop LCC's web site.
George T. Everett first visited Lake Champlain in the summer of 1944 when, as a young officer in the U.S. Air Force, he was invited to Chazy to meet his prospective in-laws. He immediately fell in love with the Lake (and his in-laws and their extended family). One of his fondest memories was fishing for northern pike with his wife's grandfather, Edmund Seymour, off Fleury's Reef near Isle La Motte.
For the rest of his life, George visited Lake Champlain every summer and worked on his fishing techniques. One of his greatest pleasures was to take family and friends on excursions around the Lake, picnicking on many of the Champlain islands. It was his hope that the Lake Champlain he knew and loved would be protected so that future generations would be able to enjoy a healthy, pristine Lake.
