March 9 - Calling all Students for School World Water Day Entries

In honor of World Water Day, the Champlain Basin Education Initiative (CBEI) partners, including LCC, are promoting a contest to celebrate the water resources around us. Classes throughout the Champlain watershed are invited to submit original photos, writing, art and videography. The project is open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 and classes or groups may submit a maximum of three entries. Prizes will be awarded at the March 22 World Water Day event and include a boat outing, class party, and classroom presentations. (Participants don't need to be present at the award ceremony to win a prize.) Click here for an entrance form and guidelines. To participate, choose a theme from the list below and send your entry by March 9 to LCBP, 54 West Shore Road, Grand Isle, VT 05458, Att: Colleen Hickey or email elee@ lcbp.org.

Contest themes are as follows.
Celebrate Water: Does water inspire you? Why? Its beauty? Power? The many ways it provides homes for living things—including us? Celebrate water in words, images, video, etc.

Spread the Word: What do you think is the most important thing people should know about water? What have you learned in your community or through your studies that you feel others need to understand better? How can you best communicate what is important?

Citizen Science and Civic Action: How are you actively working to protect water? How can you best portray this work so that others see its value—and perhaps join in similar stewardship activities?

Act Locally/Think Globally: In what ways do you understand the links between local waterways and global water? How are things happening in local places that are also linked to water issues around the world?
