Want to try ice fishing for the first time or improve your skills? Come out to Knight Point State Park, North Hero, VT any time from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday January 26 where the VT Fish and Wildlife Department will host a free ice fishing festival. Fishing is free and no licenses are required for fishing any of the state’s waters that day!

Bring your family and friends for the fun day dedicated to ice fishing. Check out educational stations demonstrating hole drilling, useful gear, tip-up techniques, and how to use a rod and jig. Learn fish identification, knot-tying, and how to stay safe on the ice. Enjoy a fish fry and cocoa (bring your own mug if possible)! Warming huts will be available so you can stay comfortable in the chilly weather.

All levels of ice fishing experience are welcome, whether you bring your own gear or borrow it at the festival. Visit the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department website to register.

Stay tuned for LCC’s February E-news that will include articles on ice fishing and Nordic skating and ways to play and stay safe on the ice. New York State will host free ice fishing February 16 and 17, as well as other free fishing days throughout the year. Find further details on the New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation’s website
