Where’s the Ice?

Last year Lake Champlain had completely frozen over by February 16. There’s no chance of a full lake freeze over this year. As of February 29, 2016, the water temperature was still 35 degrees F, three degrees above the freezing point. The warm winter has frustrated ice fisherman but allowed the University of Vermont’s sailing team to get in some unexpected early season practice. It will be interesting to see if the unusually warm winter carries over into the spring and summer.
